During the 2011-2012 academic year, DePaul University and Facing History and Ourselves entered into a first-of-its-kind Collaboration to bring resources to DePaul University College of Education students and faculty, Chicagoland educators, and other engaged citizens who believe in teaching social justice. Learn more about the Collaboration.
Humanity’s story is told both through the cowards and the heroes. Our new partnership hopes to create heroes.
-Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., DePaul President
I hope that other colleges and universities across America look to DePaul’s example and see the power of training hundreds and hundreds of teachers so that they can impact the lives of thousands and thousands of high school and elementary students. It will make an enormous difference in the communities we live in.
-Jack Greenberg, DePaul Alumnus and Trustee
… we are coming together in a partnership to figure out how to best enable our teachers to go out and make a positive difference in schools. This partnership will blend the robust assets of DePaul University with Facing History’s content and methodology and help equip teachers with the tools they need to transform classrooms and schools so they can engage students in some of the most important questions that we face as individuals, a nation, and a world and to provide them with the skills and dispositions to become critical thinkers and active participants in our society.
-Marc Skvirsky, Vice President and Chief Program Officer of Facing History and Ourselves
Jack’s gift is transformative. By the time the collaboration is fully implemented, more than 2,000 DePaul education graduates will be carrying these values and approaches into classrooms across the city and around the country. As their students learn to think critically about social justice, the impact in our communities will be huge.
